How yoga helps unleash the power of truth in your life

September 8, 2009 by Kara-Leah Grant 3 Comments

By Kara-Leah Grant, Musings from the Mat It is so common to lie in our day-to-day lives that most of us don't even know we're doing it. It is so acceptable to withhold truth in order to gain advantage that it's considered good business practice or smart politics. Truth is seen as something that gets in the way of a good sale, it gets in the way of what we want to do, or where we want go. Truth is simply, as Al Gore put it - inconvenient. It is true that we can not sustain the lifestyle … [Read more...]

What the Hell Happened with YEANZ Ltd & Wanderlust Australia New Zealand?

February 1, 2018 by Kara-Leah Grant 9 Comments

by Kara-Leah Grant It's the news that has ruptured the New Zealand and Australian yoga community and shattered the dreams of thousands of people. On January 12th, 2018 YEANZ Ltd, the company that held the license for Wanderlust in Australia and New Zealand, went into liquidation. Eleven days later, the worst was confirmed - Wanderlust Great Lake Taupō was effectively cancelled. The Yoga Lunchbox has been part of the Wanderlust journey right from the beginning: I've interviewed many Wanderlust … [Read more...]

May 8, 2015 by Kara-Leah Grant Leave a Comment

by Kara-Leah Grant Never before in human history have we known so much. We have unlimited information at our fingertips, and that information is constantly being updated. We know how to maintain optimum health including how to eat, how to exercise and how to practice yoga. We can learn any new skill for free - a new language, a musical instrument, we can even get a degree for free. No matter what dream we want to pursue, the information required to do so is available to us. Yet … [Read more...]

Learning to wait, and wait, and wait some more

November 10, 2011 by Guest Author 4 Comments

by guest author Nadine Fawell, a Melbourne-based yoga teacher, blogger, and author of the yogAttitude cards. She is most interested in yoga's power to heal body, mind, and spirit. I was very sick a while back. I was too ill to leave the house for three weeks, and, two moths later, I am still coughing. When I went to the Doctor, she told me, “It’s a virus. I can’t do anything for you: go home and sleep it off.” I am, essentially, convalescing. I can’t walk too far or too fast, I get … [Read more...]

By Michael Reynolds, of Roimata Food Commons and Toha KaiI have been working at the intersection of community development, food justice & sovereignty, and long term systems thinking for nearly 10 years.I am a big picture thinker, a creator, a doer and a companion within ecologies. I love seeing life thrive…Our food system is broken, which may not come as a surprise to anyone here. Conversations with Carlos – Part 1

September 25, 2021 by Cara Butler Leave a Comment

by Cara Butler, Once upon a time in Christchurch…. actually quite a long time ago….way before any earthquakes, way before I had kids, while I was still very much figuring out what I was doing back in New Zealand after a decade trying my best to stay away…. I somehow found myself a very novice yoga student attending classes in a very cold church hall with a very capable and intelligent teacher from the USA, Katie Lane.  Anyone who has had the pleasure of studying with Katie will know … [Read more...]

Journeys in Mindfulness – Part one

July 29, 2021 by Guest Author 1 Comment

by Erica Viedma, Yoga with Erica As a yoga teacher, I am aware of the delicate somatic connection between our physical sensations, thoughts and emotions. In yoga we often instruct people to stand tall and broaden the chest - opening the heart area. We ask people to open into areas that may have been guarded and held tight. At times I have observed myself and others struggle with the emotions that this kind of movement can evoke. With this in mind, I have chosen to study towards a … [Read more...]

Spring Equinox Rising

September 29, 2020 by Guest Author 1 Comment

by Sonya Simpson, SSY Sonya Simpson Yoga Have you felt a slow rising of energy over the past few weeks or days? A gentle nudge from within encouraging you to start creating and building? Spring equinox is upon us and with it, the light is brightening and the blanket of winter is becoming easier to throw off. The natural slowing down that occurs in winter, those quiet months when the light is low and the weather cooler, is starting to feel less necessary. Nature is reflecting back to us … [Read more...]
