I’m starting to dig this video making process. Finding my groove, opening up, getting comfortable… all of which makes me feel better about being on video, which makes me better on video.
It’s kinda like starting yoga.
When we first start, or even think about starting, we’re uncomfortable, we’re closed off and shut down, we’re tight, we’re afraid, and often these feelings are so strong, we don’t start so we don’t have to face them.
But the only way to learn something is to do it, imperfectly. And be ok with that.
It’s a bold move on my part to start making videos, with no technical experience, no real video-making equipment beyond my iPhone and iMac, and no experience of making yoga videos before.
I knew I’d suck. And I knew I’d be sucking in public. But I did it anyway. Somewhere along the way, maybe after being committed to a psych ward, I gave up worrying about what people would think of me. I just decided I was going to do what I wanted to do.
And that’s like starting yoga too. We get to a point where we don’t care anymore if we’re going to be the tightest peson in the room. We don’t care if we don’t have the right clothes to wear, or the right yoga mat. We don’t care if we fall out of balancing postures time and time again. We just care about showing up, in all our imperfect Self’s glory.
So that’s what this week is about – showing up, in all our glorious imperfect Self.Oh, and we also do some Free Your Pelvis explorations in wide-legged squat. Enjoy!

My son (5) and i just completed , his first attempt at yoga – I said how was that he said coooool. I had him in front of me on his sister’s mat in his pyjamas. He got the positions ok breathing ok but with the music he like to shake the booty as well in between the ascend-descend movement :-), Great Sunday morning father-son bonding :-).
Thanks Kara-Leah.

I love it! That is seriously cool… Sunday morning session with the family. Sounds like your son’s ahead of the mark, booty shaking comes down the line. Nothing like getting yoga students to shake it up to loosen the energy in the class, and in the body.
As always, appreciate the feedback. Great to get a sense of how people are using, and responding to the videos.

Perfect or not, I’m very glad that you are having a go at the videos. Even if they are not perfect, I think they are great. You have a very natural style of presenting and you explore your topics in an interesting way. I really liked today’s setting. The light was great but it was also an interesting but not distracting space. Good on you for having a go Kara-Leah.

Hey Kym,
Thanks Kym, great feedback, both about the space and the content. It’s wonderful too feeling the support of the YLB community behind me. Can’t wait to film next week’s video!
