How Yoga Helped Me… Lose Four Dress Sizes {video}

Hariata

by Kara-Leah Grant

OK, that headline is somewhat sensationalist – not because it’s untrue. It is true. Between Hariata starting yoga and now, she’s lost four dress sizes. But because it’s not really the most important thing about Hariata’s yoga journey. It’s just the easiest to capture in a short headline.

What is the most important aspect of Hariata’s yoga journey?

Difficult to encapsulate, but watch her on video, and you’ll see it. She’s an absolute delight. There’s a joy about her and a lightness of being.

Now that could have been there before she started practicing, but from the way Hariata shares her story, I suspect yoga has brought her joy and lightness of being to the surface.

I’ve known Hariata for awhile, as we moved in similar Wellington yoga circles, but it wasn’t until I overheard her giggling about the start of her yoga journey at a 6:30am Haven (fire ceremony) on Oriental Parade that I thought, I have to interview her!

And I’m so glad I did. Often the images we see of people practicing yoga can be demographically narrow in all kinds of ways. Hariata busts through those stereotypes and proves you’re never too old, or too inflexible to start practicing yoga.

Enjoy Hariata’s interview (about 11 minutes long).
