Once a risk analyst in China, before moving to New Zealand, Fiona randomly walked into a yoga studio after work one day in 2008. And that was it – her yoga journey had begun.
Passionate about helping people awaken their body and mind through yoga, Fiona loves how yoga encourages the potential discovery of peacefulness, calmness and strength.
In addition to her Hot Yoga Teacher Training, Fiona has also studied with Noah Maze and Katie Lane, and is looking forward to studying with other teachers in the future.
Fiona teaches Pregnancy Yoga and group classes at the studio. She enjoys what students teach her as much she teaches them and is grateful the shared process of self-discovery, strength and joy in every class.
1. What style of yoga do you practice and where do you teach?
2. How did you come to yoga?
A few years ago I walked into a yoga studio after work just to release some tension in my shoulders, but I got much more than that. After I come back to my mat day after day, I’ve gained a lot of clarity in my life.
3. When did the yoga bug really get you?
In my teacher training at Hot Yoga of New Zealand with Lou Cassella and Claire Szabo-Cassella. I started to understand yoga is more about the inner self rather than a pure physical practice. My yoga practice and my teacher training have transformed me to a more open-minded, receptive, and light-hearted teacher.
4. How has yoga transformed your life?
I have become happier, enjoying my life more fully. And what’s more?
Yoga has given me faith and courage to teach.
Yoga has given me faith and courage to just be myself.
Yoga has given faith and courage to plan and open Hot Yoga Auckland.
5. What is your home practice like?
It’s all about embracing every aspect of life!
6. When people ask you, “What is Yoga?”, what do you say?
Yoga is all about discovering the relationship with oneself and be fully present with life. Through physical and breath movement, yoga helps us connect deeply to our body and mind.
7. What can people expect from one of your classes?
Fun, dynamic and a lot of awareness of the body and mind. I help my students to find more strength, space and freedom in their body and mind, and work my best to let them feel light and happy.
8. What do you love most about teaching yoga?
I love to see the transformation in people: more openness, more confidence, more joy, more lightness…….
9. What do you wish everybody knew about yoga?
Yoga is for everyone. No matter you are a man or a woman, you are a child or in your 70s, you are flexible or inflexible, you are strong or not strong, YOGA IS FOR YOU!
10. What role do you see yoga playing in our world?
It’s about everything in my life.
