Hey Jody,

I guess it hard's to let go of the idea of what the posture is "supposed" to look like... both as a beginner and after practicing for years. I know I still have to remind myself daily to honour my body as it is, while finding an edge to play with...

I love what you're saying here. I always teach new Intro students down dog with bent knees at first, though suggest to straighten them if they can still find comfort and the length in their spine. Most don't heed the call to patience and awareness of what their body may/may not be ready for, but I still like to offer the option. In DD and in most postures, finding the comfort and the breath is what it's all about for me.

Hey Kara-Leah,
This book sounds fascinating, I think I'll find myself a copy. I've just started going to Bikram classes again (I've done it very sporadically for about 6 years) and I do struggle with the commercialism side of it and the dialogue they use. I guess it's just different to other forms of yoga I've done but I do feel that the instruction given in some postures isn't quite enough for a total beginner and I'm glad I've had other experience in different yoga classes. Having said that, for some reason, I keep going back! And like Scott Bischke says, it too makes me feel amazing, so I'll go with that!

Believe it or not it was my Husband who introduced me to the mooncup!! I used my cup while camping through Africa, no need to stock up on supplies and often my toilet was a modest spot in the woods/behind a tree away from camp these things saved me! Cleaning them was easy boil up some water on the campfire and simmer!! I was using it whilst running & during yoga, once I was used to it it was no problem. Highly recommend it!!

[...] YogaPass, which has been running successfully in Australia for awhile, is being launched in NZ right now. I know part of their strategy is to get tourism marketing bodies online to help spread the word about YogaPass. This is the kind of thing we need to see more of in NZ. We’re got great national-level marketing, there’s a niche market for yoga travelers, I’d love to see those marketing bodies look at attracting that market to New Zealand.
