Let’s make yoga a part of daily life in New Zealand

More people doing yoga, yeah!

On Friday night we had Swami Muktidharma from Anahata Yoga Retreat here at our house for Kirtan. It was a treat. Just the singing would have been amazing. But in between mantras, Swami Muktidharma spoke about life, about transformation, about the planet, about spirituality. One thing he said really stuck in my mind. I'm totally paraphrasing here... but it went something like this: The Green Party is all good and well, but in the end, in order to create real and lasting change, the … [Read more...]

The danger of thinking you know more than your yoga teacher

Practicing at home can be less challenging

Back in February, I wrote an article called Why I may never take another yoga class ever again. And true to my word, I hadn't been to a class in six months, instead practicing daily at home. One of the reasons I'd been steering clear of classes was that in class I'd struggled with being told what to do by a teacher. Often it felt like what my body needed and what the teacher was sequencing wasn't right for me. But a few weekends ago I went to two yoga classes at a yoga studio that's … [Read more...]

The Yoga Lunchbox goes on holiday… time to take a break

Time to take a break

This is it folks. The last Yoga Lunchbox article for a few months. KL is leaving the building :) I wish I could say I had something profound and meaningful to share, but I don't know that I do. And that's kinda why I'm taking a break from publishing articles on the website. Over the last three years I've written extensively about my life on the yoga path. I started this website the day after completing my first Prana Flow module with Twee Merrigan. I was all fired up about yoga … [Read more...]

It ain’t the life I ever wanted, so how come I’m having so much fun?

There's always an opportunity on the horizon

Life has been rich with opportunities to practice deep acceptance lately. Samuel is now 17 months old, generally awake from 7am to 7pm, and active, even measured by toddler standards. It's impossible to work around him anymore, or write morning pages, or meditate, or practice asana. These things were the mainstay of my waking hours - if I wasn't on the computer, I was doing some form of yoga or writing. In the last month, I've had to accept that this is just not the way my life is … [Read more...]

The future of The Yoga Lunchbox looks… bright!

The future's so bright... I gotta wear shades

Alright loyal Lunchboxers. A week or so ago I let you in on a big secret - that I wasn't feeling the love for running The Yoga Lunchbox anymore. A record number of readers commented on this article... and there were some mighty interesting responses. I had an offer from an astrology website to buy my content and shift it all to his website. Hmmm... I countered with an offer to sell him the rights to re-publish YLB content, but I would keep The Yoga Lunchbox intact and up live on the … [Read more...]

I’m alive! I’m alive! I’m alive!

Kara-Leah in a twisting lunge

I've had a rough few weeks, since moving into my new house with my three wonderful flatmates. First I caught a 12 hour vomiting bug that saw me curled up on my sister-in-law's bathroom for seven hours in child's pose, just moving to lift my head and vomit. Then I caught the flu and a nasty cough and was bed-ridden for over a week. Just as I was beginning to feel well, almost two weeks after first getting sick, I woke up with red welts all over my body and swollen lips. My best guess … [Read more...]
