When writing for The Yoga Lunchbox use this checklist to make sure you are on track:
Is your article…
Nourishment for the reader’s yoga journey?
That’s our tagline, and every article we publish needs to fit this criteria. Ask yourself, when people read my article, does it provide nourishment? Is there a nugget of insight? A morsel of encouragement? A dolloping of information?
Does it solve some kind of reader problem? ie. a “How To” article is a good example of this… but it doesn’t have to be a “How to” article to be useful.
Put yourself into the audience shoes – what problems have they got you could solve with your article?
We thrive on personality here at YLB, all of our articles are written from the author’s perspective and we’ve all got personality.
Let it shine – be funny, charming, enthusiastic, silly, or even snarky. Don’t be dull, boring, predictable and lifeless! Plus show you have authority – you’re someone who knows what they’re talking about because you’ve lived it.
Does it give the reader something? Not just for reading it, but also for sharing it. Does it inspire them, make them happier, make them smarter, give them something valuable they can share with other people what make other people grateful to them?
If your article is not one of these things – and preferably at least two – then it’s not great content. It’s not giving the audience anything of value.
The yoga media landscape is saturated. There’s so many yoga websites publishing all kinds of articles on yoga. What makes your article different to the thousands out there already? Do a quick Google search on your headline and see what comes up that might have already been written on the same topic. If there’s already ten articles out there covering the same topic, yours better be pretty damn outstanding.
Before you pitch your article, ask yourself:
Is this article nourishing, useful, interesting, rewarding and original?
And if it’s not… think again. And again, until you come up with something that is. Because that’s we want, useful, entertaining, rewarding and original articles.
How Should I Structure My Article?
- Paragraphs and sentence length: Use paragraphs to break up your article. This makes it a lot easier to read! Try varying your sentence length so you have a mix of short and long sentences.
- Lists: Readers love lists, but make each point strong, with juicy detail.
- Catchy headlines: This is your first and only chance to grab the interest of the reader. Maximum 10 words, make every single one count! Make the headline as juicy and keyword-rich as possible.
- Images: Make sure you have permission/copywrite over all photos you use. Homegrown photos are great. They need to be clear, in focus, and well-lit. All photos need to be 400 pixels wide, and landscape (horizontal) alignment.
- Length: Articles should be between 600 – 1000 words (longer if exceptional).
- Bio: Don’t forget to include 3 or 4 sentences about you, and what you do, complete with links to your website, and social media. Check out other Guest Authors to see what this looks like on the website.

We may edit your article for grammar, spelling and formatting. If we need to do so we will let you know, and ask you to approve any changes that we make.
What about Copyright?
You retain copyright to your article, and we’re also happy for you to republish it elsewhere two months after it’s gone live on The Yoga Lunchbox. We do ask that you include this line with live links in any re-published articles (such as on your website):
