A member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists, Jessica Powers aims to teach intuitive, organically integrative practices where body and spirit meet and move together. Drawing from a variety of traditions, notably Viniyoga, Vinyasa, and Yin, her teaching focuses on heart-centered movement, breath-work, and meditation. To complement and support physcial yoga practices, Jessica brings her training as a Reiki Master, exploration into holistic and Thai massage, dedication to earth-based spirituality, and ongoing studies into Aromatherapy and anatomy. In this way her classes create a richly textured and energetically nourishing container for the process of Yoga to unfold within. Jessica has her own personal blog, Knotty Knickers, where she blogs about everyday life, travel, yarn, yoga. She can be reached at 3gracesyoga@gmail.com, and is now teaching in Nelson!

Ahhh, if only bra-less yoga was a possibility for me without giving myself concussion!
BWAHAHAHAHA @ Svasti hilarious and totally true here as well
great post miz J! loved it. definitely gonna share
What a fabulous article! And strangely I have been thinking of taking some yoga teacher training courses but was unsure of my committment levels to actual teaching…yet still feel I huge draw to take them. Very interesting!
You continue to enlighten and thrill Jessica…thanks so much
As a wee yoga studio operator in Dunedin, just wondering how people feel about yoga together in a space, but not proscribed (i.e. free to meditate, laze about, work as hard as you please etc). Thought about initiating this last year but didnt happen – would you come to a free session of yoga togetherness? Feel free to leave your bra with your shoes
Jessica, I just love your writing style! This article is wonderfully balanced – we get a clear sense of your personal views and experience without feeling that someone else’s preferences have been belittled. You are clear and articulate while also making me laugh. I just think you are a stellar writer and I’m so grateful that we get to read your great writing here at our local yoga water-cooler.
Cheers!
Marianne
Great post! I have only taken a few yoga class, despite the fact that I’ve been doing yoga on and off for almost 15 years now. I long to take a class, but, when it comes down to it, DVDs and books seem to work best for me. When I have that 45 minutes of time to do yoga I can do it. Right then. No planning, no going anywhere, no deciding what to wear. I do long for that vibe that only a class can give me though. We’ll see. One day soon I’ll hit a class. Until then, Shiva Rea and Bryan Kest DVDs are my yoga friends.
Hi Jessica,
I’m totally with Marianne – your writing rocks!
I’m still struggling to maintain a consistent home practice; I sometimes find myself yearning for the group energy.
Thanks for the article. Maybe we can meet someday when I’m back in NZ.

Hey Jessica,
Once again, your writing hits a chord. I reckon Emma’s on to something – group practice in the style of home practice. Everyone together separate!
I must admit too, I laughed out loud a couple of times reading your article. And that rocks! Bring on more laughter yoga.
Blessings,
KL
i love practicing at home with no bra!! i pretty much throw on yoga pants and wear whatever tank top i had on at work that day. i’m still a little afraid of practicing in jammie pants. they are a little long and i’m not sure i want to meet my mat face to face if i trip. i find i like both yoga classes and home practice. a good balance of both.
