For many students the experience of working with Donna Farhi for the first time is a truly transforming experience which amounts to nothing less than a paradigm shift in their yoga practice.
What is it that brings about such change?
I guess there are as many answers to that question as there are students who have worked with Donna.
Speaking for myself however I can say that there were two specific ‘ah-hah’ moments the first time I attended a workshop with her in 2001.
The first one was an understanding that my practice really needed to be my practice. Not my teacher’s practice. Not a practice that had me straining to look like the pictures in the books. My practice ought to come from inside myself, not outside – and Donna gave me both the understanding and the tools to implement this change. The ability to feel my yoga from the inside rather than attempt to ‘do’ the poses was the goal.
The second epiphany came when I realized that my practice did not have to ‘stick to the rules’. Donna encouraged me to be creative. She brought me to understand that I was free to mould and create and expand into my own truly personal style of yoga. Coming, as I was, from a strict Iyengar background, this was monumental! And I have never looked back.
So I’m delighted to say that I will once again be hosting Donna Farhi at the Albany Yoga Room, as I have for the past eight years, and we still have a few spaces available.
Donna Farhi has been practicing for 30 years and teaching since 1982. Based in Christchurch, she is one of the most sought after guest teachers in the world, leading intensives and teacher training programs internationally.
