Yep, that’s me. I’m taking all my years of collected knowledge and putting it to work for my small business clients – on any scale.
I know what it’s like to start a business from the ground up – sometimes we have a vision that our budget doesn’t necessarily support. So I tailor my work to your budget.
The more you can spend on your website, the more work we can do. Best of all, I’m always available to answer those small questions that invariably come up once you have your WordPress website up and running.
Over the years I’ve been running WordPress websites of my own, I’ve learned a few (hundred) things along the way. Things like:
- Choosing the right URL for your website can make all the difference with Google, and people finding you easily.
- Choosing the right hosting company saves money, time and means you’re got great customer support at the end of a phone.
- Choosing the right theme for your website makes it stand out from the crowd, and also makes it easy to customise according to your business needs.
- Installing the right plug-ins (programmes that extend the functioning of WordPress) makes your website run better, get read better by search engines, send out feeds better and reach readers better.
- Using the right words and images to showcase your business means the difference between a website that attracts people to your business and a website that people just surf ob by.
- Asking yourself the right questions before you even think about how to organise your website means the difference between a website that speaks to your audience and customers and one who’s words just fall on deaf ears.
Trouble is, when you’re thinking about creating a website for your small business… you often don’t even know the questions you need to be asking yourself, the plug-ins that exist, the themes that work or the URL style that’s best for business.
The web-osphere is a fast, changing place… and who better than someone who’s running her own site and staying ahead of the game to help you create your website?
Because no longer is a website just a static, informational-style communication device, today’s website is an ever-evolving two-way street of communication that reflects a business’s growth and expansion over time.
A website doesn’t just take your product or service to market anymore, it provides a channel and a forum for people who love what you do to connect not just to you and your business, but to each other.
It’s exciting times for small business owners who want total control over their web presence – which is precisely what WordPress gives you. I used WordPress to create The Yoga Lunchbox and it’s the software that more and more small businesses are turning to because they want a responsive website that they can use to communicate with their customers.
With WordPress powering your website you can easily:
- send out regular newsletters or articles to your loyal database of customers
- change and update the website on a regular basis to reflect the changing of the seasons, and the changing events or products offered by your business
- build connections with existing customers
- reach out to new customers all over the world
- sell products and collect payment over the ‘net in an easy, secure way
It provides a sharp, professional face of the business via the website, and demonstrates that your business is at the top of the game in your niche.
So how cheap? Depends on your budget, and how extensive you want to make your website. It also depends on your skills level and what you’re happy to do. Maybe you’re great with words and can write all your own content, or have a strong grip on business development. Or maybe you want it all covered – brand development, positioning, content creation, business development, website creation… the sky is the limit.
A super simple website focused to deliver on-line information about your business might only cost you a few hundred dollars to get live and indexed (with you providing all of the contnt, images, logos and branding). Or you could invest thousands of dollars and get something extensive aimed at growing your business and the network of people who support it.
My freelance clients here in New Zealand have loved the control that WordPress gives them over their website. Once their website is up and running, they have the power to keep it up-to-date at no extra cost. They can publish photos, articles, newsletters, reviews, testimonials or the latest news with the click of a button.
If you don’t have a website yet at all, this is the perfect time to figure out how a WordPress site could improve and grow your business, and then make it happen.
If you do already have a website, maybe it’s time to migrate it onto a WordPress system and take control of the design and content so you can improve the benefits you’re getting from your site.
So if you’d like some help to get WordPress working for you – get in touch with me (klm@fastmail.fm) and we can have a chat about what you need and how I can help.
Testimonials from happy customers:
Kara-Leah’s work creating our website was impeccable and excellent in every way.
She has an incredibly sharp mind, with heaps of energy, as well as a rare ability to put aside her views and get a feeling for her client’s vision. Communication was quick and clear, and we were amazed by how quickly she implemented our suggestions and ideas. The combination of these factors made it a great delight to work with Kara-Leah.
I would thoroughly recommend her to anyone interested in building a website for their organization!
Peter Fernando, Original Nature Meditation Group
I love the website that Kara-Leah helped me create and she was an awesome help with it. Kara-Leah sorted out all those niggly things, that would have taken me hours, in just a few minutes and I learned a lot about WordPress and websites in the process. She made the whole thing much easier and I would recommend her skills to anyone.
Emma Furness, The Dunedin Yoga Studio
KL worked with us to migrate our website to WordPress, create a new design and layout, and get it up and running with some useful new functionality. She has a good working knowledge of this type of blog site – have a look at Yoga Lunchbox – it speaks for itself.
David Cartwright, Whole Body Health
Kara-Leah created a stunning website that with I can easily manage and update myself even though I’m not the fastest on a computer. I’m completely biased because she is my partner, but I believe she does great work.
Since the website went live, I’ve had nothing but rave reviews from clients, friends and family alike who are really impressed with it. For a small business just starting out, it’s so invaluable to be able to create a solid web presence like this at a reasonable cost. Well worth the investment!

I think you’re right on, too; WordPress is an amazing system for running your own website. I can’t imagine creating a site without it these days… there just wouldn’t be a reason I wouldn’t want to use it. It makes so many things so much easier than doing it the ‘old’ way (which I used to do, too).
TYLB looks great, too — I like how you’ve tweaked the theme.
Hey Adam,
Kiwis are finally cottoning on to WordPress, which is awesome. Such a great system!
Blessings,
